Stata is a statistical software package for data manipulation, visualization, statistics, and automated reporting. Stata/SE ("Special Edition") is for larger datasets - up to 32,767 variables. Stata/SE will run on multiple CPUs or multiple-core computers, but it will use only one CPU or core.

IT staff can access installers from SWDist for university-owned computers. Licenses for personally-owned computers can be purchased from the ITS Software Store.
Economics PhD students can access department-funded licenses for their personally-owned computers following these instructions.

Terms & Conditions
The UmichITAM software-sharing consortium maintains a group license for its members. Faculty, staff, sponsored affiliates, and students can obtain licenses for university-owned computers by requesting from their unit IT support. Licenses for personally-owned computers can be purchased from the ITS Software Store (see details above) using a Shortcode.
Others at U-M not in UmichITAM can also purchase licenses from the ITS Software Store for both university-owned computers and personally-owned computers. There is a limited license pool and once those have been given out, there will be no more until the following license year. Licenses are available for purchase online from StataCorp through the Prof+ Plan for education.
Permitted uses for licenses described above include noncommercial research, commercial research, instruction, and administration.
The College of Engineering funds licenses for students, staff, and faculty part of the College of Engineering.
